Organizing a Hiatus--Missing You AllViews: 656

The irony of not posting the final post on dealing with time management and chronic lateness on time is not lost on me. However, there are very occasionally times when being late or absent is forgivable.

Last Tuesday, when I was expecting to be polishing the post and putting it up, I was instead being rushed to the emergency room. Very unexpectedly, I learned that I had deep vein thrombosis (multiple blood clots in my leg) and had gotten to the ER just in time to avert serious damage. I then spent the rest of the week in the hospital.

Ridiculously good luck and organizing skills allowed me to contact all my clients and other contacts to cancel appointments. A good friend posted in my Twitter account (which allowed the message of my hospitalization to be cross-posted on Facebook); I knew this would ensure that our fearless leader, Susan McCool, would at least know and understand why my post did not go up as usual. Some of you also follow me on Twitter/Facebook and got the messages; I'm sure, for others, this is the first you're hearing on the subject.

The bad news is limited: you guys are experiencing a delay in receiving my "lateness" post, and I'm experiencing the general discomfort related to illness and the annoyance of not being allowed to sit at my computer and type to my heart's content. (It's really hard to accomplish everything necessary with only 10 minute sessions sitting up.)

The good news is that I am back and am using Old School methods (i.e., pen and paper) to finish up that last post on lateness, which I hope will go out within the next day or so. More good news is that this experience has provided some great ideas for posts on the topic Susan always loves...organizing prepare for and deal with emergencies.

After the delayed "lateness" post goes up, I anticipate a hiatus of another week or two until I'm allowed to sit at the desk for extended periods. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Thanks, Richard. The ER experience and hospitalization was quite a shock, so I'm glad to be home and recovering, even if it means being away from my computer for long stretches and not getting to work with clients quite yet.

I have, however, posted part 3 of the the series on conquering and combating chronic lateness. It was mostly written before the ER visit, though I've done some editing since my return. It will likely be my last new post for a few weeks, until I'm more fully recovered, though I will check back to answer any questions people have. Perhaps if I'm quiet for a bit, it will give people a chance to check our old "Organization Tuesday" posts and start asking questions. :-)
